THE NEXT DAY!!!

Prescott Valley saw some snow just two days before their first night show but
that didn't stop any of the racers or fans as they witnessed a great show with
four classes finishing early enough to get home before the cold air dominated
the valley.
A stellar 19 car field of IMCA Modifieds headed up the night of action. 17 were
still left running after all the heats were run and D.J. Wood took home all the
honors and the 2nd Home Arizona Realty trophy. Phil Baillie led the pack at the
wave of the green but a restart was thrown as several cars piled up in turn two.
This eliminated John Morris Jr. and sent three others to the pits. After the
repairs were done Baillie again jumped into the lead holding off the Ford of
Bill Slocum. It was the Baillie/Slocum show to the half way mark of the 20 lap
feature. That's when D.J. Wood took over second and one lap later got Baillie
for first. One lap later Slocum overcame Baillie and headed for Wood. Wood was
to strong for the field and took home the win. Slocum second ahead of George
Fronsman, who came back from an early crash, Baillie and Jim Collinsworth.
Finishing out the top ten were Jeff Stafford, Jeff Sheppard Jr, Ryan Roath
Clifton Maggard and David Brinkley. 15 cars were still on the track at the
checkered.
The Mini Stocks gathered up their crew during the winter and had a awesome 16
car count with all still ready to race after the heats. Underdog Towing &
Recovery sponsored the trophies and all wanted to get their hands on them. Mitch
Mohler Jr. led lap one and the yellow flew as Harry Fabozzi and Kenny Beardsley
found the front wall hard. Both cars had to retire for the night. Mohler led the
pack at the green and went to lap five when his mount malfunctioned and he gave
the lead up to Kent Ewart. Ewart had Mike Markley on his rear bumper as they
threaded their way thru lapped traffic. With only two laps to go a yellow flew
bunching up the field but that did not prove to be a problem for Ewart as he
took home the big win. Markley was second ahead of Cristain Fuller, Lyle Schuler
and Grady Clements. Kevin Miner, Russ Cron, James McElderry, Abraham Twiss and
Amanda Baillie finished out the top ten.
Underdog Towing also stepped up and sponsored the Pure Stock trophies for the
night and it was a fast one.
Scott Kleintop grabbed the lead first holding back George Fronsman and Mike
Colclasure. Colclasure got by Fronsman at lap two and headed for Kleintop. At
lap six Fronsman stepped it up and took back the second spot. Lap seven slowed
the pace as two cars got tangled up but Kleintop was still dialed up in the
lead. With five laps to go Kleintop started puffing smoke and one lap later left
the track with a lot of smoke. This gave the lead to Fronsman who then took it
in for the win. Colclasure was second ahead of Kyle Daugherty, Pappy Ricketts
and Eddie Bogan. Rounding out the top ten were John Hough, Amy Edwards, Jason
Parks, Kleintop and Richard Markley.
The Hobby Stocks had 20 laps of good racing with only two quick yellows. Randy
Auringer from his front row spot took command at the green and led it to the
half way mark when his car decided to lose power. Brad Auringer was second to
lap four but had to pit then giving second to Joe Pontin Jr. So when Randy
Auringer slowed Pontin Jr. was there to grab the lead. By lap six the leaders
were already in traffic. Dave Barnes took second at lap twelve and tried to reel
in Pontin Jr. Pontin Jr. was just to strong and took home the biggest trophy.
Barnes took second ahead of Ethan Engler, Rich Barker and Bobby Kase. Trophies
were sponsored by Barnes Boys Racing. The rest of the top ten were Trevor
Edwards, Mitch Wegner, Tami Barnes, Randy Auringer and D.J. Riley.
