5 CLASSES AND 5 FEATURES AND ALL
FAST-FINISHED BY 10 P.M.!
The 20 lap Super Mini Stock feature sponsored by Underdog Towing & Recovery was
20 green laps with no slow ups at all. The winner just missed the track record.
Bryan Gabbard out for his first time of the season in his frog green car took
the lead first and held it thru the first two rounds. Then Mike Markley overtook
Gabbard and went to the top spot with Gabbard in second and Kevin Miner in
third. By lap five the leaders were already in traffic and carefully threading
their way thru. Kent Ewart took over the second spot at lap six and then started
running down Markley. Behind them Miner and Russ Cron were going at it for third
and final spot on the podium. With three laps to go Ewart snuck by Markley but
Markley came back and coming out of turn four going for the checkered he passed
Ewart to take the win. Ewart had to settle for second ahead of Cron, Miner and
Abraham Twiss. Finishing out the top ten were Amanda Baillie, Briscoe Fabozzi,
Buff VanLandingham, Steve Brazil and Gabbard.
13 of the 14 Hobby Stocks signed in made the call for the 20 lap main event.
Rich Barker was the first leader and took the pack to lap three. Then Dave
Barnes took over and then the first yellow flew as Bard Auringer spun his mount.
Barnes, Barker and Randy Auringer took the green in that order. Lap 9 saw Barker
have a problem and the yellow flew giving second to Auringer and now third was
Zach Seitzer. The last 12 laps were all green as Barnes took it in for his first
win of the season ahead of R. Auringer, Joe Pontin Jr., B. Auringer and Tami
Barnes. The Hobby Stocks were sponsored by Barnes Boys Racing. Rounding out the
top ten were Trevor Edwards, Steven Lavigne, Barker, Seitzer and Ethan Engler.
The Super Stocks had their first race of the season with 12 fast machines at the
track all with that first place in their sights. All 12 took the flagmans green
but only five were left at the checkered. Attrition definitely took its toll.
David Wright led the pack the first two rounds and thru two yellows. Brad
Auringer was the first yellow as his car broke in turn three and needed
assistance from the wreckers. Second yellow saw Buff VanLandingham spin. George
Fronsman took over at lap three and another yellow flew as Wayne Bishops Truck
had some major damage and he needed the wrecker. By lap seven the leaders were
in lapped traffic. At half way it was Fronsman, VanLandingham and Brian King.
King fell out at lap 13 giving third to Mitch Mohler. The last 12 laps were all
green with Fronsman taking a stellar win ahead of VanLandingham, Mohler, Pat
Biesecker and Mike Glazier. The trophies were sponsored by Prescott Valley Auto
Brokers. The rest of the top ten were Henry Guenther, King, Mitch Mohler Jr,
Bishop and Wright.
The IMCA Southern Sport Mods were short on cars but big on excitement as all
five put on a terrific race. No yellows and Garrett Funk set a new 20 lap track
record with his win. Bryan Cady led the pack all the way to lap 16 of the 20 lap
race. Then Garrett got past him and headed it in for the win. Cady was a close
second ahead of James Webster, Nick Boyd and Danny Pearson. Dee Crippen, PVR's
General Manager, sponsored the trophies.
The AODC Arizona Outlaw Dwarf Cars also had their first race of the season. 13
cars were scheduled for their feature but after lining up to take the green Jeff
Perrys car died and the green did not fly, Dean Riggs never showed up for the
race and Bobby Saunders went into the pits so only 10 started the event. At the
green Fred Donaldson led the pack with Kenny Hodgkins and Jeff Adams in tow.
Fred Defibaugh became the yellow at lap four and by then Jerry Larrabee had
taken the third spot. Donaldson, Larrabee and Hodgkins were still leading at
half way. The pack was now getting into lapped traffic and Randy Dutra became
the yellow at lap 12. Donaldson jumped on it at the green and took it in for the
win ahead of Larrabee, Defibaugh, Adams and Hodgkins. Bedrock Remodeling
sponsored the trophies. Taking care of the rest of the top ten were Scott
Tupper, Dutra, Josh Randall, Jim Ward and Billy VanMeter.
