ALL THE FASTEST LITTLE CARS WERE AT PVR
ON SATURDAY 7-24-10!
By-Sandy Combs
It was a small car extravaganza as PVR hosted 30 NADCAR Dwarf cars and 21 AMA
Modlites for one great show! Even though the rain had almost destroyed the track
for a few days before the PVR track maintenance team got the track and pits
ready for some fast racing! The infield had a lake in it and not one car went
fishing and the pits had a small stream running thru it but all took it in
stride and racing went on!
24 cars took the green in the 20 lap NADCAR feature and at the checkered 18 were
still on the track giving it their all! Mike Moyer took the lead first from his
pole starting position with Russ Madden and Helen Henesey right behind him. This
trio went this way to lap eight when John Ogden over took Helen Henesey for the
third spot behind Moyer and Madden. At half way Henesey snuck by Ogden to take
back her third spot. At lap 12 they started lapping cars and lap 13 the yellow
flew as two cars tangled. On this yellow Madden hit the pits giving second to
Ogden who had just passed Henesey for second putting Henesey to third. With five
to go Mike Dunn and Mike Williams appeared in the top positions and were headed
for the leaders. A yellow at lap 16 made it a four lap dash to the win. One lap
later Williams overtook both Moyer and Ogden to take the point. He then flew to
the win ahead of Moyer, Ogden, Dunn and Brian Comley. All of the top five racers
took home trophies from John Ogden Custom Painting. 6th thru 10th were Helen
Henesey, AJ Breu, Randy Dienes, Storm Phillips and Heather Henesey.
The AMA Modlites had their biggest car count of the season and all 21 were still
able to make the call for their 20 lap feature. Nick Parker took the lead first
right at the green with Mike Ryan and Landon Cling in tow. He led to lap five
when he became the yellow giving the lead to Bud Grossenbacher as Mike Ryan also
left the track. Grossenbacher now had Brandon Echols and John Priest coming on
strong. Two more yellows slowed the pack before the half way mark with
Grossenbacher still leading with Priest in second with echols now moved to
third. At lap 14 Hayden Bender fround the wall out of turn four for a yellow and
at this time still running in second Priest headed for the pits. This gave
second to Cling now ahead of Echols. Grossenbacher took home the big win ahead
of Cling, Echols, Anthony Platt and Rick Gamble. Trophies were sponsored by D &
O Contractors. Finishing out the top ten were KJ Goodwin, Casey Cain, Parker,
Steve Bender and Kelly Ryan.
The Barnes Boys Racing Hobby Stocks saw a 16 car field. Rich Barker led lap one
and then Brad Auringer took the front spot followed by Jeff Tarro and Trevor
Edwards at lap two. With two laps down Keith Seitzer lost a wheel and the yellow
flew and three laps later DJ Riley made the yellow come out. B. Auringer
continued to lead holding back Tarro and now his brother Randy Auringer. Lap ten
the leader encountered lapped traffic and on lap 13 the red flew as Chris
Thompsons car had a fire in turn four. B. Auringer then went on to take the win
ahead of Tarro. R. Auringer, Dave Barnes and Mitch Weglin. Rounding out the top
ten were Tami Barnes, Willy Peterson, Shy Pontin, Joe Pontin Jr. and Edwards.
The Challenge Cup Sprint cars were short on cars but big on excitement as they
raced their 20 laps of action. Fritz Croy in his new car took to the front first
ahead of Chris Beal and Bryan Swinehart. He stretched out the lead but on lap
five he blew up and his night was over. This gave the lead to Swinehart who had
just passed Beal for second the lap before. Swinehart then saw the checkered
first for the win. Second to Beal ahead of Johnny Shelton, Dan Bauman and Art
Mankel III. The trophies were sponsored by Geck Automotive Glass.
The Mini Stocks held an Open Comp show and ten cars came out to play. Kent Ewart,
the current points leader, took the lead first. At lap six the yellow flew for
Brian Gourlie and that was the only slow up of the entire race. Ewart had Bill
Keeling breathing down his neck by lap four and at half way Keeling took over
the front spot. He then outbattled Ewart to take the win. Ewart had to settle
for second ahead of Brad Auringer, James McElderry and Kenny Beardsley.
