  Prescott Valley, AZ --
Jim Collinsworth fought off the challenges of Eric Center and Darin Center as he paced all 20 laps to score a $400 win in the first IMCA Modified feature of 2005 at Prescott Valley Raceway. It was also the final daytime race on the schedule for the high elevation track and record temperatures were felt. E Center was a race long second and D Center bounced back from a lap 16 flat tire to finish third. Kingman’s Steve Simpson Jr joined the action and finished fourth. Andy Wheat led the final 1/3 of the 20 lap super stock feature for a $300 win with Brian King in second ahead of veteran Craig Carrajat. Justin Randall led the final half of the NADCAR Dwarf Car 20 lap feature to finish off a perfect afternoon. The leaders threaded their way through heavy lapped traffic in the final six laps as heat winner Ryan Henesey ran second ahead of Pat Henesey in a 17 car field.

The IMCA Modifieds had an 11 car turnout and D Center won the first heat race over Collinsworth and E Center. Dave Goulette won heat 2 ahead of John Morris Jr and Simpson. Collinsworth drew the pole for the 20 lap feature and took an early lead over E Center and Simpson. The race went 15 quick laps before the first caution. D Center blew a tire, but was saved when the yellow dropped for a turn 3 tangle between Morris and Ben Peterson. Simpson got spun out of third on the restart. E Center had passed Collinsworth for the top spot, but the yellow nullified the lap. Collinsworth stayed out front for the win ahead of E Center. D Center battled back to finish third ahead of Simpson, Jim MacNeil, local resident Tim Palmer, Peterson and Morris.

Nine super stocks were also split into a pair of heat races. Gene Povinelli won heat 1 over Bill Moore Jr and Troy Mikkelson. Carrajat won heat 2 over Wheat and King. Povinelli led the first two laps of the 20 lap feature before Moore took over. Lap six saw Moore and Povinelli locked together. Moore suffered a flat and Povinelli was the new leader. On lap 13, Povinelli lost a tire and Carrajat was the new leader. Wheat drove by Carrajat for the top spot and a yellow with four laps to race give King and Carrajat one final run at leader Wheat. Wheat stayed out front for the $300 win ahead of King, Carrajat, Jeff Hopper, Moore and Povinelli.

The dwarf cars split 18 cars into three heat races and 17 of them were able to start their 20 lap feature. Randy Anderson won heat 1 over John Hamilton. Randall outraced a very quick Larry Stewart in heat 2 and R Henesey won heat 3 ahead of Chester Villella. Stewart was a scratch from the main event. Mike Dunn led early in the feature with Randall right behind. Hamilton got into the front wall for a lap 8 yellow. R Henesey was now third. At the midway mark, Randall raced into the lead and R Henesey followed him into second. They thrilled the crowd with their moves through traffic as Pat Henesey worked his way to a 3rd ahead of Anderson, Dunn, Mike Witt, Ron Neville, Villella and Scott Ward.

Racing moves to the normal night time slot on May 28.
