Pure Stock Rules

The rules and/or regulations set forth herein are designed to provide for the orderly conduct of racing events and to establish minimum acceptance requirement for such events. These rules shall govern the condition of all events, and by participating in these events, all participants are deemed to have complied with these rules. NO EXPRESSED OR IMPLIED WARRANTY OF SAFETY SHALL RESULT FROM PUBLICATION OR OF COMPLIANCE WITH THESE RULES AND /OR REGULATIONS. They are intended as a guide for the conduct of the sport and are in no way a guarantee against injury or death to a participant, spectator or official.  The Race Director shall be empowered to permit minor deviation from any of the specifications herein or impose further restrictions that in his/her opinion do not alter minimum acceptance requirements. NO EXPRESSED OR IMPLIED WARRANTY SHALL RESULT FROM SUCH ALTERATION OF SPECIFICATIONS. Any interpretation or deviation of these rules is left to the discretion of the officials. Their decision is final.

 

Chassis-Body Roll Cage:

 

Note: The word STOCK will mean original equipment manufactured OEM. For example ford To Ford, GM-to-GM, Chrysler-to-Chrysler.

 

1.All cars must be American made passenger cars with a minimum wheelbase of 101” in stock condition.  No compacts, sub-compacts, convertibles, commercial vehicles, or imports.  Bodies must be complete and stock including a complete floor pan, front firewall, trunk, rear inner fenders, and rear firewall.  All chrome, trim, glass, mirrors and interior fabric must be removed.

2. No double bumpers.  All bumpers must be strapped, front and rear, using carriage bolts to secure straps. Aftermarket replica front nosepieces are allowed.

3. All cars must have a four point roll cage with a minimum of three door bars on the left side and two on the right.  Cage must be a minimum of 1 ½” by 0.095” wall, steel tubing.  Should the cage be attached to the floor pan, it must be secured via a 6” by 6” steel plate securely bolted to both the top and the bottom of the floor pan on which to weld the cage.  Front loops are allowed, but must remain inside the body structure.  ???No reinforcement front loop to bumper.

4. No gutting of the interior sheet metal; except for the door bars and dashboard as required to install roll cage. Gutting under the hood, trunk lid and roof is permitted. No other chopping of the bodies is allowed except for the opening of the fenders for tire clearance. The interior of car cannot be enclosed. The use of small removable interior panels to aid in dent repairs is allowed.

5. If you remove your top to install a roll cage, you must weld it back on to all four corners plus a minimum of two bolts to top of roll cage.

6. NO additional ballast weight at any location is allowed. The use of a water supply for added radiator cooling is allowed, but must be mounted securely in the driver’s compartment within the main cage structure and must be functional at all times.  Maximum water container is 5 gallons.

7. Rub rails must be mounted flush against the body.  Maximum material size is 1”X ?.  Carriage bolts must be used to attach rub rails. There shall be only one rub rail per side.

8. All cars must be numbered with large, professional looking and legible numbers located on both sides, top, front and rear panel. The numbers must be in contrasting color from body, in all light conditions. Numbers on the top and side of the car are to be at least 4 inches thick and 15 inches high. Numbers on front and rear must be at least 5” tall.

NO SPRAY PAINTED NUMBERS! Numbers are to be no more than 2 digit numbers.

One letter is allowed as part of the number. No symbols are allowed as a part of, or for a car number. No numbers will be allowed on the rear quarter panels or the roof downs. 

9. There is a 50’ rule in this class.  All cars competing must appear repaired and fully painted from a distance of 50’. Cars not meeting this requirement will not be allowed to race until repairs are deemed acceptable by PVR.

10. When a tech inspector deems necessary, a 3/16” hole will be drilled in the main hoop, halo, drives door bars, front door bar, rear door bars, and cross bar in the rear of the car.  This is a to ensure material thickness and to check lead in the tubes.

 

Engine-Transmission-Drive Shaft

 

1.      There is no cubic inch limitation in this class. Only dish or flat pistons are allowed. No roller parts (cams, lifters, rocker arms) will be allowed. Dome pistons of any type are NOT allowed.  Only factory heads, without alteration, are allowed. Studs may be pinned or changed with a screw-in the stud for repairs.  Poly locks are allowed. Aftermarket altered steel heads are NOT allowed. Stock cast iron or aluminum intake manifolds, without alteration, only are allowed.  Only factory water pumps are allowed. Engine must be in stock location and must use factory motor mounts and frame mounts. Moroso saddle type steel mount may be used in place of the factory rubber mounts. After market oil pans are allowed.

2.      Mufflers are required. Mufflers will function so as to not allow a sound emission greater than 95 decibels maximum emission.

3.      Engine must be equipped with a factory ignition system only. Stock carburetors, base gaskets, Ford’s EGR plate must be used, where applicable. No carburetor plates or spacer plates allowed. Stock exhaust manifolds only are allowed. Headers are NOT allowed. Engine oil coolers are allowed.

4.      Transmission will remain stock, in stock location. No direct drive transmissions are allowed. Full size torque converters only. Aftermarket transmission coolers are allowed. Racing approved scatter shields must be used for all manual transmissions.

5.      The drive shaft must be painted white and have a loop 360 degrees around it, located 3” behind the front universal joint.  Minimum loop material size is 1” wide by 1/8” thick.

 

Rear End, Steering and Suspension

1.      Rear ends must remain stock in stock location with stock suspension. Rear ends must be passenger car type for make of car. Example: Ford to Ford, GM to GM etc.

2.      Suspension and steering parts must remain OEM stock, unaltered for the type, make and model of the car. Sway bars must be stock, mounted in the stock hardware and location with stock linkage or sway bars may be totally removed.

3.      All cars must have operating OEM stock four-wheel brakes. For driver preference, vacuum line may be disconnected to brake booster. Brake shut off valves are NOT allowed.

4.      Steering shaft must be stock length and pedals must be in stock location.  Stock steering column may be removed.

5.      No modifying or reinforcing of steering or suspension parts. No racing shocks. Replacement shocks must possess stock mounts and be placed in the stock location with no alteration. Suspension parts must be OEM replacement parts. Aftermarket parts are NOT allowed except for nuts and bolts.  No weight jacks are allowed. Polyurethane bushings are allowed in suspension control arms.

 

Tires-Wheels

1.      Tires must be manufactured for use on passenger cars, maximum 60 series tires.  No grooving, shaving, mud, snow, implement, off-road, recapped, or racing tires. No tires manufactured by Hoosier, McCreary, or Mickey Thompson will be allowed.

2.      Wheels must be steel or steel spoke wheels. Right side must be heavy duty or plated, maximum wheel size will be 8” x 15”. Oversize lug bolts allowed. Offset wheels are allowed. Wheel spacers and adapters are NOT allowed.

3.      No beadlocks allowed. Wheel plug allowed in right rear only.

 

Cooling-Fuel-Battery

 

1.      Radiators must be in stock location 1.5”maximum, tubing may be used for radiator protection. Protection must be inside of the body. 1.25”maximum support bar is permitted across the top of the radiator to support fenders.

2.      Aluminum radiators are allowed.

3.      Fuel cell must be securely mounted in the trunk with two steel straps front to rear and one side to side. Minimum strap size is 1” by 1/8” steel flat stock. Fuel tank area must be completely sealed off from the diver’s compartment with sheet metal. Two 2” holes must be in the trunk lid. A steel plate, not to exceed .040” may be placed under the fuel tank. The plate may extend no more than 2” out on each side of the tank. Any plate, which exceeds .040”, will be considered ballast and must be removed.

4.      No electric fuel pumps allowed. Stock mechanical fuel pumps only mounted in stock location on engine block. Notching of frames or sub-frames is NOT allowed.

5.      Fuel is gasoline ONLY. No alcohol, nitrous, or any oxidizing agents or fuel additives allowed.

6.      Electronic devices for driver communication are NOT allowed.

7.      Fuel and/or oil lines in drives compartment must be totally encased in steel tubing.

8.      Battery must be securely mounted in car. Battery boxes may be used and are required if battery is mounted in the drives compartment. Only one automotive 12-volt battery is allowed. Any additional batteries will be considered ballast and must be removed.

 

Safety:

 

1.      All cars must have a minimum of four windscreen bars for protection in front of the driver. Full coverage wire mesh windscreens are allowed.

2.      All cars must have racing type seat belts and shoulder harness with the lap belts securely mounted to the roll cage and the harness must be mounted to the roll cage a maximum of 1’ below the driver’s shoulders.

The Drivers seat shall be a high-back aluminum-racing seat only. It must be mounted to the roll cage in the stock location. The seat cannot be mounted to the floor pan.

3.      Drives side window nets are mandatory. The window net is to be mounted so that the latch is at the top front of window.

4.      A fire extinguisher is required in every car and in every pit.

5.      All safety equipment is subject to inspection at any time.

6.      All safety equipment must accompany the vehicle at time of tech inspection.

7.      All drivers must wear a Snell SA95 or SA2000 full-face helmet with shield at all times the car is on the track.

8.      All drivers must wear a SFI approved full fire suit, of a flame-retardant nature, fire retardant neck brace, fire retardant gloves, and fire retardant shoes at all times during competition, or anytime on the track. 

9.      A SFI approved five-point (minimum) safety harness that includes a sub belt, shoulder harness and lap belt is required. All safety belts must be mounted securely to the roll cage or frame in accordance with the manufacturer installation instructions. The full harness is recommended to no more than one year old. Harnesses more than 5 years old must be re-certified or replaced.

10.  A “Kill” switch required within easy reach of driver. The switch must be clearly marked 'OFF' and 'ON'.

11.  Roll bar padding is required in driver compartment to protect the driver’s area. Fire retardant padding recommended.


Engine Claim:

 

1.      There is a $525.00 engine claim or a $300.00 and exchange engine of which $25.00 per engine goes to the wrecker pulling the claimed engines. Driver being claimed has the option of exchanging engines or taking the money. This must be declared in the claim area on the front straight away and id final. If exchange takes place, the driver making the exchange pays both engine pulls only. Claims do not include, flywheel, motor mounts, bell housing, clutch arm, throw out bearing, clutch ball, exhaust manifold, carburetor, starter, pressure plate, sending units and switches for oil pressure and water temperature, water pump, fan pulleys, thermostat and housing, fuel pump, distributor, plug wires, dip sticks, or breathers.

2.      The first five finishers in the feature are subject to claim and cannot claim an engine. Any driver finishing sixth or back may make a claim, if he is on the same lap as the leader. Top five finishers in the feature must stop in the claim area on the front straight away immediately after the finish of the feature, prior to leaving the race surface to make a claim. Only drives and officials are allowed in claim area and tear sown area. Money must be in cash and on the driver at the time of the claim. To claim and engine you must have competed in at least 50% of the races in that class at PVR and be in good standing. No driver may claim more than two engines during the regular season. No driver may claim any other driver more than once during the regular season. You can only claim one engine per night.

3.      If a claim is denied, all points for the entire current season will be forfeited and the driver will be disqualified from that nights racing, losing all money. Car and driver cannot return to the Pure Stocks for the remainder of the season.

Protest:

 

All cars are eligible for and engine protest. To protest you must follow the guidelines and submit your protest to the pit board within five minutes after the main event results are posted.

 

Fee: $125.00 in cash must be submitted with a written protest. Car number nature of protest and your signature must be included in the submittal.

 

Cars Subject To Protest: Any car that has taken a green flag in the main event that night.

What Can Be Protested: The engine parts as follows: Piston top configuration, type of lifter, roller rockers and fuel or air supply.

Who May Protest: Any driver that starts the main event and has raced at least 50% of the shows in the current season and is in good standing at PVR.

Tear Downs: Any tear down must be done within a reasonable amount of time as determined by an official. Teardowns are to be conducted in the Tech Area ONLY.

Protest able Parts: Any parts required to prove rule compliance to satisfaction of an official.

 

Remedies-Decisions:

Failure of either party to cooperate with the officials and or rules may result in protest being denied or upheld on technical violations.

 

Decisions: Decisions made by officials are final. There will be no appeal of compliance once a decision has been rendered.

 

Refusal To Tear Down: The Driver will lose all points for the entire current season and driver will be disqualified from that nights racing, losing all money, trophy’s etc.

 

If Protested Vehicle is deemed to be Legal: The Protested driver will receive $100.00 of protested money. $25.00 will go to the points fund.

 

If the Protested vehicle is deemed to be Illegal: The Protester will receive a $100.00 refund. $25.00 will go to the points fund. The Protested illegal car will be fully disqualified from all events for that day of racing. This includes all monies, awards and positions. The second time the vehicle is found illegal will result in loss of all points accumulated for prior events in that racing year. The Third time the vehicle is found illegal will result in a suspension of the car and driver for the entire racing season.

 

Penalties:

The Driver of the car is totally responsible for all actions of his car owner and pit crew. Any behavior such as: abusive language, threatening, or intimidation, or any other actions determined by and official to be un-sportsman like in conduct will result in a minimum of disqualification. Fighting will not be tolerated. Any fighting at the facility will result in civil charges being filed, NO TOLERANCE
